Review: Foo Fighters – Wasting Light

Foo Fighters – Wasting Light

I’m not going to go on about how much I love Foo, and all of that.  The album had me at the first 2:00 – it was literally all over right then and there.  Not all of the 11 songs do it for me – such as the ‘bleh’ “These Days” and “Back and Forth”.  But the highs are very high.  “Rope”, the lead single, is a winner.  The aforementioned first track, “Bridge Burning”, is one of the best songs they’ve ever made.  I think what I like most is the warmth of the record.  I’m guessing the much talked about analog process (and Butch Vig) made a difference.  There is a worn-in sound, which doesn’t always help because some of the tracks felt like “we’ve done this before…back in 1998.”

Grade: B+.  It’s not the killer album that people were claiming.  But it’s still pretty awesome, and the really good songs are REALLY good.
