Jazmine Sullivan – Love Me Back
I’m a listener of current R&B, (and a buyer) but most of the albums out today aren’t very well rounded, or complete in theme…save a Maxwell, or The Dream. It’s rare that you get R&B records with more than 3 decent songs and 11 filler tracks. A “good” album has maybe 6 quality tracks out of 13, 14 tracks. This one is one of those rare exceptions. There is a slight old school feel, with the samples and instrumentation. The real highlight is the songwriting – more than her voice, she is an excellent lyricist (and only 23). Her ability to tell a story with a track, and then weave the right tracks together, isn’t matched by many in R&B today. Very impressive record – highly recommended. More R&B coming this week.
